We haven’t checked in on 288 7th Street—which, in a past life, was a two-story carriage house—since last summer, but since then it’s hit the market and one of its three units is in contract, according to StreetEasy. The two remaining duplexes in the condo, which is between 4th and 5th avenues, cost $1,700,000 for a 2,216 square footer with one bedroom and $2,500,000 for a 2,216-square-foot three-bedroom. Update: Looks like the only unit currently on the market is the 2,216-square-foot condo asking $1,700,000. Anyone checked ’em out in the flesh?

  1. > I challenge folks to do the same

Challenge accepted. I lived on that block for five years and still walk it frequently. The building is awkward, ungainly, and ill-proportioned from every angle.

  2. This photo was taken at an angle that makes the proportions look all out of wack, by emphasizing the larger structure in the back. I walk down this block all the time, and find that this building fits right in with its neighbors. I challenge folks to do the same – talk a walk down this street, on either side – and judge for yourself about how well-proportioned and contextual it is.

The old facade (barring the metal gate) WAS much better. They should have stayed true to that instead of creating this clunky, ill-proportioned blob.

You do not have to like the new facade (you can even hate it) but the old building was an ugly garage with a metal rolldown…
