The Observer reports that The Contour in Rego Park is ready to open its doors to its first residents. The 108-unit building, built originally in the 1960s as an office building, is now made up of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments that rent between $1,695 to $2,860 per month; it’s 70% leased already. This building was converted to apartments by the LeFrak Organization (of LeFrak City fame, which is not far from The Contour, either), and its their first project in Queens in 38 years. There’s really nothing else like it in the area as far as rental apartments. And there are Manhattan views.

For those not familiar with Rego Park, check out this NY Daily News slideshow we featured the other day. The Contour is located at 97-45 Queens Boulevard (GMAP), just a block or so away from the 63rd Drive M/R local station. It’s also very near the area affectionately called “Regostan” because of the presence of NYC’s Bukharan community – Jews from Central Asia. In fact, one of the more popular Bukharan restaurants, Cheburechnaya, is just a short walk from The Contour. Perpetual borough favorite Ben’s Best Kosher Deli is almost right across the street, too.

One might wonder how luxury apartments would do out in seemingly under the radar Rego Park, but with 70% of the units already leased, it does show that there is a desire for such a way of life in this immigrant neighborhood.
