The drama continues at the Jackson Heights Trade Fair. DNAinfo reports that the grocery store reopened today as “Global Supermarket” without much of a makeover. The new owner also stated that he did not hire any of the former Trade Fair employees back. Trade Fair shuttered abruptly in December, leaving around 50 workers out a job. Labor leaders and former Trade Fair workers protested the closure and there were talks of the new supermarket owner hiring back some of the old workers with the option of letting them join the union. As a union rep told DNAinfo, “Talks went along well for about two and a half weeks, but then he stopped communicating with us.” Ultimately, the new owner brought his own crew to work in the store.

This space was slated to reopen as Key Food; the Trade Fair buyer operates four Key Food chains around the city. For whatever reason this location opened as Global Supermarket, which has no affiliation with Key Food.
