It’s time for our weekly Queens food blog roundup, where we offer you what the local comestible press has in store. For this meal, we have selected posts suitable for spring: light, earthy, savory, and sweet. Please have a seat and your server will be right with you.

Course 1: Salad
We start off this week with a lighter alternative to red meat. We Heart Astoria has posted a delicious vegan red lentil burger recipe which would be a great option at a backyard barbecue. The ingredients list may look daunting to the new cook, but everything can be bought at most supermarkets. Even a tyro chef could make these, but you will need a food processor or a really nice neighbor with one.

Course 2: Entree
Out and about and feeling peckish? A BLT will do the trick and won’t spoil dinner. Chopsticks and Marrow tried the BLT at the LIC Market. This ain’t your local diner’s sandwich; it’s got lots of extras like arugula, avacado, and beautiful thick-cut bacon. Sure, it’s not traditional, but AABT doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.

Course 3: Main
Got someone special coming over? The Glorified Tomato has a quick and easy recipe for chicken paprikash. Hungarian in origin, this one uses bacon fat (we didn’t get enough with the BLT) and takes about a half hour to cook. That’s plenty of time to prepare some rice and let that bottle of red breathe before your date arrives. Be careful — it’s spicy.

Course 4: Dessert
The wine’s gone and you both want to walk off the chicken. Why not take a stroll to Leli’s and share a mini cake with your date? Fooditka tried out one of these petite confectionaries and reports they are totally worth it. They come in a full array of traditional cake flavors and they’re cheap. Just don’t call them cupcakes!

We hope you enjoyed your meal. The check? Right away!
