Wacky Times in Crown Heights
Desperate times call for desperate measures. What to do when the market tanks on you mid-construction? Buy some different shades of green paint and apply liberally. We shall see whether the paint job will translate into sales at the 10-unit, Scarano-designed 804 Bergen Street. Bets? GMAP

isn’t is setback the same as the building on the right?
btw, did google streetview go away? was trying to look at this building on google maps, and there’s only terrain, traffic and map?
Congrats on the gig, MM.
I’m bacccckkk! Feeling rather charitable today, since I just got a decent sized project from a client. Yeah! Mortgage money!
I’m going to let this one pass. It ain’t great, but it could be worse. I wish it wasn’t set back so far, that always ruins new construction. I also guess tile, or paint is the new (and cheaper) architectural ornament, but this building needed some zing, and it showed some imagination. The windows are good sized and the balconies reference the fire escapes next door, and add some context to the design. I wish I could see the lobby and ground floor, but
all in all, much better than some of the other buildings in the area.
See, I don’t hate everything new.
DIBS, my guess is that this is basically a painted stucco job. The lines in the green area were carved in to create the effect of blocks.
I wouldn’t want to tie one on and come home to this place , but if I were a neighbor I wouldn’t mind it so much. Since when have blander Scarano offerings looked any better than this?
This looks just like the “Lotus” on McCarren Park. Same green & tan wavy styling:

awwww, dave! You’re not comforting me and I’m already having anxiety about work, and now, my artistic creds.
Thanks cmu. And fyi- the new computer is great and I love vista, although it can be way too chatty cathy. It’s so purty!
I suspect that they are different colored tiles. An even bigger bummer since the paint could have been easily changed.
bxgrl, I agree with you, it’s quite pleasant and a refreshing change from the brown, brown, brown and more brown. With black railings.
What’s wrong with color? I wait for a SF-style renaissance here.
it’s similar to the karalahari (sp?) building that went up recently in harlem. it has the same wiggley pattern on it, but i think the colors on the one in harlem are shades of beige and brown
