Welcome to our new interiors feature. The week, Framework Architecture designs a wall to help organize a small apartment on a $50,000 budget. Got a project you’d like us to publish? Send us some photos and a note.
The project consisted of the removal of a wall separating kitchen and living room, the removal of kitchen appliances and finishes, and complete renovation of the bathroom. We left the wood flooring, but stained it to contrast with the wood slatted wall. Joe’s Wall, as we called it, was used as the organizing element of the space. It was used to display the owner’s artwork at the entry, to store his food by the kitchen, and to store his clothing in the living area. The wall also expands to create a space for the bed, giving the sleeping area a bit of separation and privacy. To keep millwork cost down, we used Ikea wardrobes, but replaced their doors with wood slats laminated to MDF. The custom doors made the wardrobes integral with Joe’s Wall. The kitchen and medicine cabinet are also from Ikea.
LOVE, Love, love it.
Yowza Chicken, that’s $2500/word. Looks fab, but it does seem like a lot of money for such a small space and an Ikea kitchen.
I can tell you where $50k went – on this one sentence “With Joe’s Wall, we intend to bring clarity and satisfaction to the often conflicted relationship between people and their possessions”
If $50k was for everything, I could kind of understand it – not just for the wall though.
I think that is pretty cool looking. Can definitely see where the 50G went.
The wooden wall is a strong move. The kitchen however, seems to be undesigned/afterthought, and therefore takes away from the strength of the wall.
it’s in the bathroom. i won’t say where.
just kidding. i like this a lot and can easily see where the 50 grand went. i think a lot actually did go into the bathroom renovation. post isn’t really clear what they did in the kitchen, but if they actually upgraded any of the appliances and fixtures, that adds up as well.
I agree with Adam. I don’t see 50 grand here
NIce for the sapce but where did 50 grand go? I would think that you could pull off this reno for 25k at the most.
top shelf job on this small space, well done. really love hidden storage.
