lpc approval for window screens?
We were hoping to just put screens on the exisiting windows (wood, in excellent condition). Assuming this is possible, do we need approval?

It looks like landmarks approval is required for installing exterior window screens, which falls under the category of storm window. We do not have screens on the front of the house and would like them. Don’t want to go the route of screens you have to take in and out every time. Do people actually get LPC approval for window screens in practice?

If you’re replacing the existing historic windows with new storm windows (that have the screens you describe), then yes, people seek LPC approval for them. The rule of thumb with an LPC property is that if you can see it (on the street) and you want to change it, you’ll probably need approval (or a Certificate of No Effect). I’ve seen them reject windows that they’ve approved on the other side of the street, I’ve seen them reject intercom boxes based on where they’re positioned, and they’re sticklers for color matching.
