New Stoop - Property Taxes

Sorry to hear this. Maybe an engineer or architect on this board could weigh in on whether a permit is needed and what type. There is no change to use or egress even with the elimination of the foyer/returning to regular front door. If it’s not an Alt-1 or Alt-2, but is something an engineer files, it seems less likely to trigger a property tax increase. (I’m guessing some kind of permit will have to be filed with the DOB since it’s structural.)

Hi All, My brick stoop is falling apart. Not repairable – it needs to be replaced. I have a 2 family house. The stoop leads up to the top apartment. The front door to the bottom apartment is in the stoop with the underneath of the stoop being the “foyer” into that apartment. Brick stoop. I want to replace the stoop with either a metal stoop or another brick stoop, but I’ll be removing the foyer. The under area of the stoop will be open space (storage) and the entrance door will be moved inwards to line up with the building.

Will this trigger a property tax increase? If it’s a possibility, what can I do to avoid this? I can’t have another assessment. The former owners did work in the early 2000s that increased property taxes. I then did my own work in the early 2010s and it triggered another assessment. I pay over $12k/yr for a 2 family.
