Vented skylight

if you reach your fingers around the pyramid dome, it may already be vented.  that’s what that is actually, unless it was sealed.  Water and leaves and show came into out so frequently i had to seal it up, which i can fully understand.

I have a 2′ square pyramid shaped skylight at the top of the stairs that I would like to have vented so that the heat doesn’t build up in the summer. Is it possible to buy a skylight that vents at the sides? And if so, from where? I have seen the regular flat ones that open up at an angle, but they look too “open” to me. (Sorry if that sounds ridiculous, but maybe someone will get what I mean!)

try B&B Sheet Metal in Long Island City.  We got two vented  skylights from them (traditional brownstone style roof skylight with a hand crank  adjustable vent)

If you have no other reason to replace your skylight, other than venting it, make sure you confirm that it is not already vented.  You are right, it should be vented, as the home needs to “breathe.”  If it is an old skylight it may have venting at the very top (there should a metal cap at the top of the pyrimid which allows for venting and it is hard to see if you are only looking at it from below).  We just had both of our skylights replaced, as they were leaking, and they are the pyramid style.  Premier Roofing did ours (along with a new roof) and we are very happy.
