Skylight wont close (pole operated)

So I opened up the skylight and I guess I opened it too far because it fell back down a “step” and now its stuck at 90-100% of the way open. It will let me go up or down that last 10% but wont come back down any further. Any ideas how to fix this? thanks in advance! I went on the roof to try and free it up but it wouldn’t budge at all. Going to try wd40 and push while someone else tries closing it, soon as I have someone to help. The pole wont turn past a certain point, so im guessing everything is still intact, just jammed up. here’s a picture I found that looks a lot like my skylight http://www.dayliter.com/images/img_access02.jpg

It looks like the same mechanism as ones made by Supreme Skylights in Ronkonkoma. Try calling 631-738-0325\. Get somebody’s email there and send your picture. Please let us know what the solution is. Will you replace the mechanism or repair it? Does it require grease or other maintenance?

Have you tried going up on the roof to re-set the ratchet by hand?

Have you tried popping the cover off the crank mechanism at the base? Looks like a few screws and you should be able to free it up from the inside, easily maybe? Ok, disclaimer: this is not the correct technical terms but: the pole thingy that pushes up the sash is kind of like a bicycle chain that gets un-cranked and goes straight up to hold the sash up, right? (Told you that wasnt going to be the right tech talk so please dont make fun). So if you take the cover off, you may be able to wind it back up or see where its off track and put it back on track? Just trying to help… best of luck Matt R www.nyc-hs.com
