Single-Family Home Security

Hey, all — after 22 years of apartment living my husband and I are buying a house in Queens. Honestly, it’s freaking me out a little. There has been a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood; in fact, our city councilman’s house got robbed last week. We have bars on the back windows — ugly but soothing — but should we look into an alarm system? Do they actually work? Any tips on how to keep ourselves safe would be great. (Guns and dogs are a no-go.)

Security of our home is very necessary and get the good security system . I have installed door phones at the entrance and camera system in the front and backyard of the house from [voip phone systems denver](http://www.libertybts.com). If someone enters in the house, first he has to answer through door phone then only he can enter the house .

yes, get an alarm system. we use ADT. Get the camera’s, but that can get expensive.

Get your police precinct to send over a CPOP officer to advise you. Mine told me that perimeter lighting, auto timers on interior lighting, secure window latches, etc. were much more deterrent than alarms. A fake sign saying you have security helps too.
