Wood Floor Buckling/Cupping

Hi Everyone. We are pretty much finished renovating a SFH in Midwood that needed extensive work. Plaster walls, new electric, roof and repair/replace water damaged wood floors. We replaced the flooring on the 2nd and 3rd floor w/ new 3 1/4′ oak and installed new subfoor. These floor are fine. We used original pieces from the 2nd floor that were in good condition to repair the first floor. This work was over the course of several months and theoretically all wood should have been dry by the time everything was installed. Reputable wood floor company did the work and the job was completed in January. By April, we saw signs of cupping. By May some pieces buckled completely.
Several floor people have come out to see it and the consensus is there is either an active moisture issue or the old wood was wet; either the planks OR the subfloor.

Does anyone have a lead on someone who can DIAGNOSE the issue so I can get clarity on how to move forward?
I do not want to go t hrough the significant work and cost of doing this floor again only to have the same problem.

What happened to the company that did the work? Call them back before you start asking others to second guess their work.

But Cate, it’s the second and third floor. FWIW about two years ago I had a new oak floor installed in my ground floor kitchen, over a somewhat damp cellar. It’s been a couple of years now with no problems. Of course the floor company put down a moisture barrier between the original sub-floor [which served as our actual floor for 40+ years] and the new plywood, on top of which they laid the new oak. I can’t imagine how the “reputable wood floor company” the OP used wouldn’t be responsible for fixing this problem.

Could be moisture from the cellar. Did you have the wood in the house for a month to acclimate before installing?
