Renovate stoop , exterior brick work and vestibule
I am looking to renovate the front yard of my town house . Looking to replace old deteriorating stone steps, install new iron fence similar to original, redo steps under stoop and remove some old stucco . Brick under stucco needs to be repaired . I am thinking of either just repointing the brick after stucco or possibly installing thin bricks over the old bricks for better cosmetics . I have a number in my head , fairly big job .
I am wondering about permits ? and rough idea of cost. All input appreciated.

If your town house is a landmark, you will need to get LPC permits, if not, no permit is needed unless you will erect a scaffold on sidewalk. You can try Anthony the Mason, really good with restorations! and has a very fair price. I found him on this form and have used his services for a few jobs. 347 307 4725

If you don’t need scaffolding then no permits are required.
Remove the stucco and the decide what to do based on what you find. Repointing will be just fine. If the wall is in disrepair you need to straighten it out anyway to make the stairs structurally sound. By the time that’s done your wall will be looking like new anyway.
If you have brownstone steps, you should have someone do it who does only that, and who has a good track record.
