Removing paint from a slate fireplace
You can use any number of types/brands of semi paste chemical paint removers. I prefer rock miracle which is on the toxic end. Whatever you use remember to protect the floors and tile grout from drips and never use tools that will damage the soft stone. Sharp metal scrapers will gouge the stone. Also since the stone was most likely painted from the start with some type of faux finish don’t be surprised if your stripped stone is not consistent in color.

Hi, this is my first post. I’ve recently uncovered a late 18th century slate fireplace. It’s painted in a yellowish/creamy enamel colour. It has minor chips in a couple of places. I would like to know how to best remove the paint/enamel to begin with. I would then like to repair the minor chips. What would be the best way of repairing these minor chips? Thank you.
