Permit question

This is yet another permits question. We completed a fairly typical Type2 2 BR renovation in a co-op. Our contractor filed building, electrical and plumbing permits – building was self-certified, electrical was inspected by the city, and the rough plumbing was inspected by the city. In looking at the BIS website, another similar job had plumbing self-certified and no electrical permit. What are the considerations surrounding self-certified vs city inspected? Why not file for electrical? Thanks

Do you know whether the electrical work was comparable? Running new circuits, etc? We did a whole house reno years ago. Building permit was self-cert, plumbing and electrical were inspected. Even self-cert is subject to random audit inspection. I am not sure what the current criteria are for self-cert on buildings and how often DOB inspects anyway. They do not have sufficient staffing to inspect every job.
