Losing faith in Contractor

Hi — I’ve been in a reno for about a year and it feels the closer to completion the less progress I’ve seen.

Stupid mistakes I’ve made. My previous PM got sick so I haven’t been diligent about getting specific updates and timetables.

Now I want to get some independent eyes on the project. Does anyone have advice on hiring an engineer or something get and evaluation on where things stand?
