Hard Flooring Discoloration Mystery -- help!
Hi All,
I had my old maple floors sanded, Minwax whitewash pickle stained, and Bona Matte finished. It looked fine 4 days after it was finished. My contractor then covered it with rosin paper and cardboard. After a month, I pulled off the paper and discovered that 70% of the floor has become green and yellow — like if somebody took a fluorescent highlighter and spilled it on the planks.
Not sure what happened and have narrowed it down to 1) Contractor short cut with Bona finish somehow which caused yellowing 2) Chemical reaction to old hardwood floor or 3) Covered floor caused curing problem.
Really stumped and and my contractor said he’s never seen something like this.
Any insight on how to repair would much be appreciated. Should I screen and refinish or totally resand?
Thanks! [IMG_8552](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s2/:brownstoner:PoUj:img_8552.jpeg.jpg) [IMG_8553](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s2/:brownstoner:W1jk:img_8553.jpeg.jpg) [IMG_8554](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:YvJk:img_8554.jpg.jpg)

In my experience, maple is tricky to change. It’s a hard yellowish/orange wood that is resistant to stain. I’m not sure what caused the problem but I doubt it was the Bona, more likely the pickle stain. What does your contractor suggest?
