Exterior Painters

I’d like to get an estimate for painting the woodwork on my small brick house in the LES.
Does anyone have any recs on good professional exterior painters?

if anyone has painted brick on the building, know that paint traps moisture in brick walls. i usually tell customers that once you begin painting brick and chimneys, you really have to keep the upper portions maintained or water will get in and run down and if it is severe enough, it will appear as a leak inside. Aside from actual leaks, a building “breaths”. this is how it works: moisture moves away from heat (toward cool). so in the summer with air condition on and the heat beating on the building, the moisture moves inward. in the winter, with the heat on and it cold outside, the moisture moves outward. Paint interferes with this process.

op, the painting industry has changed in this city and, now, even out on Long Island where i am from. Years ago, you had people who did a job because they wanted to do THAT job. Some became carpenters and others became painters and we LEARNED our trades, often from a much older person. Two decades ago, a painter had a business with insurance and was able to carry insurance on him or herself and save for retirement. They were invested in and committed to their trade. nowadays the model is different: it is about getting money fast and anyone who owns a paint brush and paint roller thinks they are an expert painter (it takes years to really learn any trade; even painting). the people today are not set up with insurance and they are not really charging enough to protect themselves or save for retirement; they are not running businesses and really, they are not professional (they will balk at the thought of sanding something out and/or priming it; they do not know what primers are used under what conditions). Because the professionalism is lacking, it is very hard for someone like me or perhaps even others, to recommend painters on a forum like this.

keep in mind, if you are trying to get wood trim painted on a house fronting a sidewalk, you want that painter to carry insurance in case something goes wrong with a passerby.

Is your brick already painted? Painting brick can cause issues. Have you looked into repointing?
