Cost/Responsibility to Pull Construction Permit

Hello, I have plans that are approved with the DOB and have just hired a GC. The GC is telling me that he typically does not pull the Construction Permit and would like our architect to handle. Is this normal? Additionally, what is a fair price to pull the Construction permit? I figure an expeditor would spend a day or so. Are there any DOB fees? I believe I already paid several hundred when the job was filed. Thanks!

A GC can have their name attached to a permit if they register with the DOB, and receive a tracking number. Any Licensed Home Improvement Contractor, even a very specialized one, can be a General Contractor, for the purpose of pulling a permit. It gets more complicated for new construction or other large projects, but getting a tracking number is pretty easy, if there is a Workers’ Compensation Insurance Policy. Is your GC Licensed? Do they have “comp”?
