Plumbing Trap or Money Trap...lol

I had a stoppage from my sink line & the plumber said he would change the pipes & install a ‘trap’. I know nothing about plumbing, but am under the impression, from what I’ve read, the appearance of a ‘trap’ is pretty obvious. I even asked him, before I looked under the sink, as he was packing up, if he installed the ‘trap’ & he said yes.

No trap there. Get one installed, because you are getting sewer gases into your apartment, it is health hazard. Forget complaining, plumbing association has nothing to do with it, DOB as well. Just get someone to fix it asap and do not hire unqualified people again. When dealing with plumbing company verify their license info, ask them to produce proof of licensing and insurance.

I sense a misunderstanding. You had a blockage. Most likely the plumber said he would clean the pipe and install a mesh or metal basket to catch waste. Or perhaps he said he would clean out the trap. Your fixture most likely already had a trap.

That’snot a trap. Whoever installed that knows absolutely nothing about basic plumbing. Just looked at the picture and no this is not a trap. The trap also prevents sewer gas to seep back into the house..

Maybe I didn’t clarify.
With a little research, I tried to educate myself on what a ‘trap’ is. What you described certainly falls within my understanding.
The problem I am having is that I see nothing that looks like a ‘trap’, under my sink.
I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but I attached a picture in my original post. I will do so again, w/this response.

The trap is part of the waste system. It is located below the sink and is shaped like a letter “J”. It prevents sewage gases from backing up. Every sink has one.
