Ikea faucets -- good for the long haul?

Spend a little more and get a Delta faucet, or a little more than that and get a Chicago Faucet.

I like the look and price of Ikea faucets, which I am considering for replacing our falling-apart bathroom sink and faucent combo.  But do they last?  And if they start dripping, do local plumbers have the parts to fix them, or do Ikea’s faucets rely on some kind of special European parts?

dunno about long haul – nor about their cheaper stuff – but in the midrange, i put an ikea rinsing faucet (the flexible, sprung style) in about 7 years ago.  Been good so far except some sag in the spring.  When it got “Dangly” – hanging about 3″ lower than when i started – i called ikea CS, and they sent me the replacement part free of charge.   Note that was an aesthetic thing – functionally, the sink has been good. no hot/cold cross blending, and no drips/leaks.This particular model – the valve unit was a single, sealed unit, so you would have to replace the whole thing (as opposed to a replaceable cartridge or ball valve, as some other brands have…  then again those brands also have models with these sealed assemblies – so it really depends on the style i guess)

I wish it were possible to get things that cheap, which are as good as ones costing much more.  A good cabinet installation is one thing, but plumbing parts? I spent many hours trying to make an Ikea sink drain fit where it really didn’t.  The parts were not available.  A few months later the customer had a clog and took it apart and couldn’t figure out how to put it back together. We ask a lot more of our plumbing parts than we did only a generation ago.  If you can pay the money now to a good local supplier, who stand by their products, pay it.
