We are moving to Brooklyn and driving a Budget truck.  Could somebody advise on alternate side of the street parking for Clifton Place, between Classon and Franklin (Zip: 11238)?  We don’t want to arrive and not be able to offload our furniture. I’ve tried looking it up on the Internet but can’t find the info.

In many (most? all?) Brooklyn neighborhoods the police will “tolerate” double parking during alternate side hours and the convention is to leave a sheet of paper with your contact information on the dashboard, so that anyone double-parked in can contact you. Be warned that expensive double parking tickets are issued very soonafter alt side hours end and there’s no absolute guarantee that you can’t be ticketed DURING those hours since double parking is always illegal.

I do not live there, but I’m pretty sure that alt. side is 11am-12:30pm, Monday and Thursday, on the north side of Clifton Place, and on the south side, 11am-12:30pm, Tuesday and Friday. So plan your move for the day that alt. side is IN EFFECT on your side of the street. Arrive no later than one-half hour before end of alt. side (no later than noon) to grab a spot in front of your building.

Be aware that the ‘5 minute rule’ applies only to meters, not alt. side.  A neighbor of mine got a ticket w/ a time just 3 minutes before the end of alt. side.  But the only time there have been tickets for double parking was when someone got parked in & phoned the police who gave tickets to everyone – their reason being that technically all were in violation.

As an aside, commercial vahicles are a special class in New York. You cannot take it on any parkway and you cannot park them overnight on a residential street. Good luck and congrats.
