Leaking from the House Next Door

We just re-did our roof (complete tear-off) with a highly recommended roofer. When it rained on Sunday, it leaked worse than it did before the roof was done. The roofer came back and didn’t see any issues with our roof but thought it could be coming from the neighbor’s roof. The house next to us is one story higher and not in great shape. He speculated that the water got into their side wall, which is brick covered with a large styrofoam slab with concrete or stucco over it, and rolled down and got under our roof. Right now, the house is vacant. It was purchased by a foreign investment firm in November and there has been no activity in the house since then. I tried to get the owner’s contact info from the broker who sold the house but they kept putting me off. I called 311 and got a name and address in Brooklyn of the owner but no telephone number. Our roofer is going to try to seal the top of the side wall but if that doesn’t work do we just have to deal with leaks until the owners show up? I appreciate any feedback.

Did you have a water test on your roof? It may sounds funny why i am saying about water test on new roof.I visited one house the owner said some body did roof 2 years ago,another roofer did same roof 6 month ago,still they having water leak.I found so many places roof edges was not covered properly and i showed the owner where is the water coming from.I told him to call recent roofer who did 6 month ago and fix that area where water is getting in. You may do samething tell the roofer findout where is the water coming from and fix it.

your roofer should have flashed that and http://www.mbchief.commade sure it wasn’t leaking.  It sure sounds a little suspect they are just going to blame your neighbor.  Could you post a pic?

the way you describe it is a little hard to picture – if there is a neighbors butting side wall, your roofer should have flashed that and made sure it wasn’t leaking.  It sure sounds a little suspect they are just going to blame your neighbor.  Could you post a pic?

Did your roofer flash the side wall?  Sounds like he did not.
