hindsight of the storm

So after you went though this storm, how would you prepare for the next storm? Some people talk about protable generators. some people install sump pumps, buying flood insurance, fight global warming, stockpiling on gas, moving far away from the ocean, etc. What would you do to prepare for next storm?

Lots of larger flashlights and lanterns require D Cell batteries. These disappear off the shelf when a storm is forecast. Enormous heavy duty blue tarps and rope are incredibly handy and cheap. Pumps are great but won’t do you any good if there is no power. If your pump is critical and a generator is not feasible, consider an inverter for your car. Another handy thing to have if you are a verizon landline (POTS) customer, is a conventional telephone that doesn’t require power. If the power goes out, the phone lines typically stay up but you won’t be able to use them if all you have is a cordless phone. If you own a generator r pick one up, get a battery powered carbon monoxide detector as well.

As Romney said, head to one of your second or third homes.  🙂     Yes, Bob, filling gas tank is probably #1 or 2 up there with filling your bathtub if you live in a high rise, or have well water.

The only thing I forgot was to fill my car’s gas tank before the storm. I’m doing a lot of walking now to conserve my < 1/4 tank of gas.
