Cost/referrals for a coop seller's attorney?

I’m selling my coop in Ditmas Park (fingers crossed) and about to officially accept an offer. I got a quote from a reputable lawyer who also happens to be the husband of a colleague & friend of mine. When we purchased the coop nine years ago, it was a sponsor unit and we got a very inexpensive lawyer who was fine but required us to truck out to her office in Flushing. I’d just like to get some additional referrals or at least a range of fees before we commit, and hopefully, go to contract! Thanks!

I use Doron Leiby – 212-227-4200\. I’ve bought and sold a few apartments here in NY (both coop and condo), and he was definitely the best attorney I’ve worked with. He walked me through the entire process so I knew what to expect, and resolved the issue with my existing mortgage (I paid it off but the bank never recorded that it was paid, so we couldn’t close) really quickly and without much hassle for me. Highly recommend him.

I used Declan Redfern at Kayser & Redfern when I bought my co-op and when I sold it and bought a 3-family. They were very affordable (don’t let the Madison Ave. address put you off.) If you use them, you will likely end up dealing with a paralegal mostly in the day-to-day stuff until the closing. His name is Chris and he was great. Our last sale and most recent purchase weren’t has smooth as the first one with timing etc and they really helped me not lose my mind on occasion. When i am on the sale side of a co-op, i usually charge $1800 to $2000\. Your Attorney has to negotiate and draft the contract, make sure the managing agent and/or co-op board provide the purchaser with necessary documentation, and arrange the payoff for the existing mortgage (if any). Don’t use any lawyers just because they are husbands, etc of friends unless they are real estate lawyers and know the ins and outs of brooklyn real estate. I’d recommend David Fainkich 917-376-1588
