Small Business Based From Brooklyn home
Trying to find out what the rules are regarding a business at home – living in a landmarked neighborhood in brooklyn. More specifically it would be a yoga studio in the basment of our brownstone. Would not require a sign, too much traffic, and it would not be disruptive to anyone in anyway whatsoever. Would really appreciate advice & knowledge from experience in this situation. Seems like it shouldn’t be a big deal BUT I want to know in advance if there can potentially be any legal issues besides insurance. Thanks for the input!

I don’t think that you are going to face any legal issues for yoga studio. You just get the mendetory paper work done and that’s enough I believe.

If you feel overwhelmed researching the zoning text, try phoning Marty M’s office, they may be able to steer you in the right direction. The one thing they actually do is related to planning and zoning.

I don’t think the landmark status matters, unless you’re changing the exterior, or putting up a sign (things you write you’re NOT doing). You should, of course, check the zoning, as well as any deed covenants that might apply.
