Can someone recommend a reasonably priced person to design a home audio system (in wall/ceiling speakers) for people who enjoy music but are not looking to go crazy on the system.  Ideally, I’d like someone who can design the placement of speakers and designate the wiring so my GC can install.  The system will need to work with our existing Sonos components.  I appreciate any leads. Thanks.

the best option is to go to a high end audio store like stereoexchange http://stereoexchange.com/ and have them do it for you. 

Otherwise I suggest you go the  DIY/hobbyist route and check out AVS forum http://www.avsforum.com/, the people on that site are some of the most geeky and informed AV enthusiasts you are likely to find across the country. One of them may be willing to help you install it themselves.

having done this in the last year I have to disagree with snezan about going to a high end retailer. I don’t think stereo exchange makes sense for someone who isn’t an audiophile.  they’ll do it, but they’ll push higher end components than it sounds like you need.  they quoted a single room, entry level component system (by their standards) for me–it was $11k!.  it was great equipment, but I decided that was more than I could justify and I’m so glad.  for a few grand more my A/V sub installed all this: 4 zone system with all new sonos components, marantz receiver, control4 remotes for two rooms, in-wall & in-ceiling speakers for 3 zones, martin logan bookshelf speakers for the 4th, 55″ samsung smart tv, wired alarm system and 4 security cameras with remote monitoring and local backup to a 1 terabyte DVR.  the only thing they didn’t do was run the networking cable because that was already in my electrician’s contract.  they had to return a couple times to fix things that weren’t done perfectly, but overall I think I got way more bang for my buck than I would’ve gotten from stereo exchange or any of their direct competition.  definitely recommend at least getting a quote from them.  I worked with Sergio Aguirre , 631-563-2000\.  good luck!
