Oil to gas conversion - indirect storage tank question

I am contemplating convertion my oil boiler to gas and as part of the job replace my hot water heater with an indirect storage hot water tank.  It means that I have to run the boiler year round, but it’s supposed to be efficient.  Does anyone have experience with it? It adds about $3500 to the cost of the job, which seems very high given that a standalong hot water heater costs much less.   Thanks!

Thanks for your reply.  I ended up going with the indirect storage tank and am looking forward to my first gas bill, sort of 🙂

We have been happy with our Buderus indirect. Stand alone gas fire3d hot water of decent size including piping should be 2K or so. I think that efficiency of gas boiler should be superior to stand alone. My guess is the recovery rate of the larger boiler is the trump card. Taco zone controllers have an override that will make hot water over any other zone calling for heat. In year’s past, it was good to shut down the energy hog of a oil fired boiler for the summer, but things are really diffferent now.
