Venting a gas fireplace

I’m contemplating adding a gas fireplace into the second story back wall of our brownstone and would likely repurpose an existing AC sleeve. What are the code requirements for venting (i.e., would the vent need to go to the same height as the boiler vents on the roof?). Also, any thoughts on the safety of ventless gas fireplaces?

Since a gas fireplace is a gas appliance by NYC DOB standards, you need to comply with gas venting code http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/downloads/bldgs_code/bc27s15.pdf basically you need to vent through B vent run through the chase that you want to use To my knowledge ventless gas fireplaces are not approved by the NYC DOB Try contacting either A and A Chimney or A and J chimney….both really honest and dependable companies
