Uneven Forced Air Distribution

Balance vents, test by covering with cardboard, if it works install registers that can be closed partly. It may be difficult to get perfect balance as weather conditions may drive this a bit. Consider an ecobee thermostat with remote sensors to help heat up the remote areas.

We recently moved into a house with forced air. The front of the house is about 10 degrees colder than the rear. The furnace appears to be fine. But when you put your hand over the vents at the front you feel very little airflow or heat (unlike the rear vents). We suspect it is an issue with the ducts (either blockage or poorly designed originally).

Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Anything we can try or can you recommend anyone who can help diagnose/resolve the issue?

Maybe try Flat Rate Duct Svc. Not sure they can do anything but worth asking: 212 933 9303

a row house we have that issue; separate from wall registers; see if ductwork in basement has additional louvers you can adjust flow to close off areas that are hotter; allowing for air to be directed to front before thermostat reaches temp. i’ve considered inserting a blower but would only install as part of a front room renovation

^ What they said. Obviously there can be a ton of reasons for this issue, but adjusting the louvers is the best place to start!

can’t hurt to get the ducts cleaned. i used Cunningham Duct a few years ago and was happy with their work. could there be a break in the ductwork that serves the front of the house? a section of duct that is uninsulated or travels through a colder part of the basement?

We have noticed a very similar issue and while I am not positive about this, I believe the drafts, cold air in the front of the house, etc is coming from an uninsulated area in our cellar and the cold air is coming up through that area, effecting the entire front area of the house. Looking into getting this figured out, but following this post as well. Thanks.
