Outdoor reset
How do Outdoor Resets (ODRs) work? What is involved in adding one to an oil and hot water system?

here is an article from tekmar regarding outdoor resets http://tekmarcontrols.com/solutions/browsesolutions/energy-savings.html
just realize that the controls do not run cheap

On hot water system, regardless of type of fuel, outdoor reset sets water temperature to heating system in relationship with outdoor temperature. It is based on the fact , that output of the radiator depends on its temperature. Cooler radiator emits less heat, hotter radiator emits more heat. So, by changing radiator temperature we can control how much heat it emits. On warmer days radiator can get lower water temperature, on colder day hotter water. It requires constant circulation, so variable frequency drive pumps, consuming 5 times less energy than conventional pumps are very good for this application. Outdoor reset control with outdoor and indoor sensors or Taco I-series valve with outdoor reset actuator, as an example. There are few things to consider as well, like on conventional boilers by-pass must be installed and there must be protection from condensation, and some others, too much to list here.
