In-ceiling mini-split question

We’re in the process of installing mini-split AC in our three story brownstone and have had a few contractors in to give us estimates and ideas. We’re sold on using Mitsubishi units based on good reports and the first contractor suggested we cool the parlor level (front and back parlor with a hallway connecting them) with a horizontal ducted unit that would cool both rooms with the air intact living in the hallway. The second contractor said this was a bad idea, that we’re inviting trouble both in how they operate and the cost of servicing them down the line. He said we should just do two wall mounted units on that floor. Does anyone have any experience with ducted units mounted in the ceiling? Are the costs associated with servicing these units a lot more? Are they not as effective? Thanks!

We have Unico mini-duct high-velo system. We dropped a ceiling in a closet for the air handler. Yes, you need to do this in a way that provides adequate access to the air handler. You also need to make sure that it can be placed so that the condensate can drain without the need for a pump. Make sure all these considerations are part of the design before you commit so you know what you are getting into in the way of soffets, clearances, register or duct locations, and lost space.
