Whole House Humidifier

Yes, we have one. I have installed two (the one that came with the house was a joke, so I upgraded it and then upgraded that one. It helps, but not enough, so we still run room humidifiers. One major factor is that we keep the house pretty cool, so the heat is not running much. As a result, the humidifier is not running much. If your forced air heat is running a lot, then it probably works better.

As part of a forced air HVAC system, yes, they do. Though I don’t have one now, I had one years ago in Chicago where they were mandated by code. They need to be kept clean and, depending upon the model, serviced. I have no recommendation on a model though.

There’s one installed on a duct of my c.1965 forced hot air system, I disconnected it years ago because I feared a build-up of bacteria in the tank.

If it is a large house, use steam. I have 4 vapacs but don’t recommend them and am switching two units to aprilaire 800s. The parts for the vapacs are 2x the cost for a new aprilaire 800. The biggest issue is water quality. You need to replace cannisters every year. My fill valves get clogged with calcium. So I will probably need a house filtration system given crud in the water. Evaporation can be okay in a smaller house but needs to be level and has its own headaches.
