Underpinning

I heard outrageously loud noises last week on Jan First week of Feb coming from my neighbors basement. Is it possible that he went under my side of the party wall and poured concrete? I spoke with engineer yesterday and this was his opinion. Please let me know what seriously think? Thanks.

You can’t remove a party wall in 20-30 minutes, except with a sledgehammer, and then you’d have a nice view into the building next door.

Is your wall where the bump is sheetrock? If so, you might want to get someone who is handy with drywall to neatly cut out a square section of your wall so you can see what is going on behind it. You will need to put that piece back, tape it up, use some joint compound, then prime and paint, but I don;t see any other way for you to know what is going on behind your wall other than to have a look yourself.

I’m in a 2 family – the attached is in a 2 converted to a 4 in 1990. I’m saying my opinion is on December 5th for 20-30 minutes – he did some kind of damaged or removed the party wall and then worked on reducing my walls for the next month. Then he drilled into my walls on Sat and drilled upstairs on Sunday. Then last night – he finally made a bump into the wall I see. I’m also worried that the underpinning is creating cracks that will lead to downfall once the real project starts.
