Sidewalk contractor? Tree root problem

First you need to decide whether we want to harm the tree and go the easier way or not harm it, but it can be difficult and expensive.

Can anyone recommend a sidewalk contractor that has experience dealing with tree roots? One slab is raised and I’d love get a more permanent solution that just shaving the tree or repaving without dealing with the tree.

I did not have trouble finding these contractors in that past. You can google, “concrete contractor nyc”, or “sidewalk violation contractor”. I was quoted 750 to replace a flag once, but I didn’t have a violation so I just did it myself. The current solution to the tree root issue is to enlarge the tree pit, which may or may not be too your liking. If your sidewalk is narrow, the enlarged pit will cause logjams in front of your building, but they leave enough for ADA requirements.

Oh boy, the tree pit is already big, 5 x 10, and the tree is pretty small. The contractors I’ve spoken to just say that they’ll replace the slab, don’t worry about the tree. I’d love to avoid having to do this again in five years.

I’d try to ask Parks Dept. since there are penalties for messing w/ street trees. If they don’t respond, get your community board involved.
