Seeking Successful Property Tax Challenge

I challenge my property tax every year and lose, so this year I plan to take it to the courts. Anyone have experience with this. Can you recommend a company that’s had luck in getting the tax reduced?

Before you go to a lawyer, I’d go to one of the NYC-sponsored seminars on RE Tax – there’s a list of them included w/ the new estimate you just got. I did that & was given good help that ended in getting reductions. The lawyers who do the work (certiorari) are expensive & most I tried weren’t interested in my small building.

What is your basis for the challenge ? Is it a new market value assessment ? If so, what paperwork does one need to submit ?

If you have actually challenged your tax yourself; not given it to one of the Law firms that do this on automatic pilot, but actually done it your self. I find it difficult to believe that you lost if you were doing it for a correct legitimate reason.
I have done a few over the years, but I have always done my homework, got all my ducks in a row etc. And I think just because of the performance; calm methodical reasoning based on the facts. I have always got a reduction. And then they leave you alone and barely give you an increase again!
If you hire one of the law firms that do this as I say Auto Pilot…. all they do is put all their files in two piles, this pile gets a reduction, that pile try again next year… next!
This has always been my experience.
If you have done a rehab, changed C of O’s etc. … there is not much you can do.
