Removing unpermitted extension alt-1, alt-2, neither for a 2-family home

I would say you almost certainly would require an Alt-1 if you’re going to be removing a portion of the building, but as resident2 says, consult an architect.

Will removing an unpermitted extension in the yard require alt-1, alt-2, etc. permit if we plan on keeping it as a 2-family and leaving the current footprint? Bonus, if we decide to knock down a load bearing wall to open up the kitchen/living room, will that require an alt-2 permit?
