Recommendation Needed for Elevator Company

thanks. this is all a shame. a lot of consolidation over the years with United Technologies and Armor and i never knew it reached to Barist. Less competition now and bad for the customer. if i think of anything else, i will post.

Our building has used Consolidated Elevator for many years to handle service, maintenance, inspections etc. They have become increasingly expensive to the point where we are finding them unaffordable. Can anyone recommend a company they’re using? Thanks.

Most of that stuff, like boiler inspections, sprinkler testing and elevators are comparable from company to company. There’s a lot of liability for them nowadays, especially elevators.

Prices have gone up probably 2-3X inflation for a decade. This doesn’t even include all the extra elevator-related mandates NYC has added in the past several years for older elevators. The amount of our budget going to the elevator is out of control. Hopefully there’s still an elevator company out there that we can turn to.

you’ll most likely be best off increasing common charges. You won’t find a company that will save you thousands of dollars.

most of them are married to the same union contracts and expenses as the others state. there used to be a company called staley elevator in sunnyside queens and i knew someone who used them for a small firm (read “limited resources”) and she was happy with them. i suspect they may have moved but may well be in business still.

outside of something small like staley, we’ve used places like Armor Kone and United Technologies (which might have been Otis) and at one point Schindler. i suspect these are pricey. out of all of them i like Armor the best – but things may have changed over the years.

ok, my info is a little dated. Staley has been taken over by Armor. Not sure if they still operate under their own name or not.

there was another firm we used at a building that had a limited budget: Barist in Deer Park (and the building was in the bronx, so they go all over the place). Very small shop if i recall but the tech at the time was great and because he was the only tech assigned to us (yes they were small) he treated our building like his own (and took a lot of time to explain what was going on). FWIW, i was responsible for the budget and shopped their contract once and we ended up staying with them.

the bigger firms did a lot of installation work. it may spell more overhead. a small firm like barist seemed to do mostly service, if i recall.
