Oiled wood floor owners! Do you love or regret your floor finish?
Hi oiled wood floor owners!
I’m agonising over that perennial question : to go with oil or a poly finish on a new white oak floor.
I’ve read the many threads here on Brownstoner and I just can’t make up my mind.
I’m interested to know if you’ve actually lived with an oiled floor – perhaps for a few years:
– Do you still love your choice or do you regret it and wish you’d gone with poly?
– Has the maintenance been manageable or a burden?
– Has the stain resistance been acceptable?
– Have you made spot repairs (such as oil promises) and have they blended in?
Many thanks. Gosh choosing floors is tough !!!!!

Just wanted to give a 2nd vote for Woca oil. It’s beautiful and it’s definitely able to take some touchups which you can’t do on a poly floor. Plus it’s non toxic and derived from vegetable oil!

Hi Jason – we stained and then oiled our heart pine floors on bottom two levels of house and used only oil (no stain) on top floor reclaimed pine planks. Woca oil. I love them. Two coats 6 years ago and still going strong; I think we may do a “refresh coat” next year with a product woca makes especially for this. We use woca cleaner – it has some of the oil in it so every time we wash them, they get a mini refresh. We’ve done spot touch ups in multiple places and I’d never be able to tell you where. SO much better to me than filling my house with chemicals and having to do a full sand and repoly any time I want to fix a scratch… this is esp important on our main floor since they’re still the original boards and have already been sanded to within an inch of their lives – the less I ever have to sand, the better! Good luck with your decision!
