New Brownstoner Format
Why is everything so BIG? When I look at the news section the headline fills half the screen. I can only see half a picture at a time. Is anyone else suffering with the LARGE TYPE edition of Brownstoner? Why cant they just show all the links to off site stories instead of making me click “more news this way”? I tried to give myself time to get used to the new format but it is really much worse – takes much more time to see what’s there and when you scroll down the same stories repeat themselves. On my laptop the forum section doesn’t even load. Anybody else missing the old Brownstoner? I agree with everything lurker said. Not just friction, site is visually noisy and seems to have a mind of its own. Content wise, more and more articles seem targeted at newcomers to the Brooklyn RE market. The old brownstoner would have never seen the need, for example, to explain what “no fee” means in a rental listing. It is kind of self-explanatory, even to a newcomer.
I also agree with nope. Better to have stories remain in chron order (forum posts, too) and have a way for the most active posts to also stay visible, as before.
I am still here, but I am still not happy.

Agreed with most above. The headline story that stays at the top and hogs the page, to me, defeats the purpose of a blog for regular readers. Brownstoner, at least give us a way to sort the newest story at the top so we don’t have to scroll to see if theres new content.

Redesigns always inspire much hairpulling usually followed by acceptance, but in this case the result is clear for me: I visit the site less, rarely read the main site, stay shorter amounts, and it feels like the forums are far less active. There’s too much friction to viewing it. Before you could scroll and see far more info in far less time and pick and choose what links to hit from the first page. Now you have to navigate too much, and as others said the ridiculous giant-size font and photo sizes means that a single entry fills the browser window on my 22-inch diagonal screen.

Hah! My eyes are young, but also appreciate larger print. I browse the forum a couple times everyday, but am still getting used to it. Obviously there is a logical system, but maybe color shifts for posts I’m following might help differentiate them from brand new posts. Also, I wish the am and pm links did not require a click. Just list them right there! I am an artist and understand a work-in-progress. I hope Blankslate offers an organized and easy way for us to give feedback.

With my aging eyes, I found the font size refreshing. Normally I have to increase the zoom to 110 or 120% on most sites (especially the “fancy” overdesigned ones,) so this is fine.
I don’t see any problem with partial views…do have an old system with low resolution?
You can always hit control-minus or Apple-minus to adjust…

I agree it’s too much bother to click through on most of the content & the entire redo is pretty much a fail.
