Neighbor’s solar panel wires
aesthetic. these things do not make noise
(the heat pumps we had in north carolina in the 1980’s were noisy – the best part was when chameleons would sun themselves on the blades and the unit would start and you would hear “pa-ding”. it was months before i went outside and looked at what made the sound and i found dried blood and chameleon parts all over the fan grill).

My neighbors had solar panels installed (the massively overhead kind, that are visible down the block). The silver conduit and loose black wires now run down the front of their house — on the far side of their stoop, right next to my stoop and front door. They did this as part of a gut renovation.
I have never seen this before. Is it normal to run the conduit and wires down the front? I would think it normally runs down the back of the house. To me, next to my front door, stoop and cornice, it looks awful. But more importantly, I wonder if there is a safety issue with the loose black wires. Eg what if a kid tugs on it?

It’s possible they had dont interior work in basement already and so pulling a new line to the breaker box would have been a huge mess, so they cut costs and corners by doing it on the front. Not especially nice of them but it’s nothing compared to houses with mini-splits mounted all over the front, which is becoming common.

The house next to me just put mini splits on the front and i am not happy.
I contacted my city council person’s office about this a few weeks back and it was suggested that i follow up with a letter. If others on this board agree with this sort of regulation, advise here and let us know if you will write a letter and it might motivate the rest of us.

is your issue with this aesthetic, the noise of the units – or both ?
