My house needs brick re-pointing and a coat of paint.

In general, as you indicate you know, painting brick is ill-advised. Park Slope Brownstone does excellent pointing & refurbishment 646 554 4513 & would give you good advice about sealing.

The facade of my house has peeling paint and is in desperate need of repointing (and potentially brick repair). I want to have it painted again after the brick has been fixed. Yes, I do understand that painted brick will require continual maintenance every 7-10 years to repaint — but I like the look. This leads me to two questions:

1) Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, reliable, reasonable mason or contractor for brick repointing, repair, and painting?

2) Does anyone know if the brick should be sealed before being painted? I know that it is typically sealed when exposing the brick.

Thank you in advance for any tips.
