Linear drain twilight zone! Feces in shower!
So you went from a rectangular drain to a round drain, found crap in the drain at some point, and it’s your contractor’s fault?

My contractor installed a linear shower drain last year in my bathroom. It couldn’t be removed for cleaning, so I asked him to replace it. He did, but with what seems like a regular shower drain. A few days ago, I took a look in it (by removing the piece of metal that lays over the drain) and the drain was filled with feces! I’m through with this contractor. Do I call another contractor or would a regular plumber be able to solve this issue. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What could seem like feces, could be a combination of hair, skin, bath products, etc etc. If it’s a cast iron pipe, all this gunk coats the inside of the pipe, and it turns into a brownish color.
