ISO independant water damage evaluation

A while back I noticed a musty smell in one of our rooms that had water damage from a leaking facade 3 years ago.
The facade got fixed and there are no visible signs of mold on the walls.
I would like to get it checked out by a sincere professional but am not very trusting in contractors of any kind (based on a couple of bad experiences) …

Can anyone recommend a person who would give me an honest opinion instead of jumping right into an expensive repair that might not even be necessary?
I’m happy to pay for an independant evaluation of course.
Thanks in advance for your input.

In my experience, mold inspectors can only reliably tell you mold is present if you open up the walls/ceilings/floors/etc. and they can visually inspect it. They also claim that a musty odor is only present if the leak is still present. (Not sure how seriously to take that claim.) Furthermore, they have implied, mold is typically only a concern if someone in the household is experiencing a negative reaction to it such as allergies, asthma, etc. That may be a gray area and open to interpretation.

I haven’t done this in NYC, but I did have to do it as part of an inspection in TX. The mold/air quality inspector is separate from the remediator. The inspector tests for mold by taking air samples that are examined in a lab for the presence of various types of mold spores. If the test comes back positive, the inspector creates a “protocol” for remediation. I was able to take that “protocol” to several remediation companies to get bids.
