We’re getting a new fridge this week. This is a pic of our existing fridge water line. Is this PEX or something else? I assume this came with the fridge when we bought it 8 years ago (Samsung). If this is PEX, should we keep it or get a new one since it’s 8 years old? Not sure how long they last. The other option we’d consider is copper, but it sounds like PEX is the better option. Any opinions on this? [IMG_7636](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:Z1uh:img_7636.jpg.jpg)

Thats plastic… use copper or a braided stainless connector

Thanks! Do you have an opinion on braided stainless PEX? I found one that’s 12′, but we need at least 15′, maybe even 20′. I don’t want to use plastic, which is what’s inside the stainless steel connectors…Even though as you’ve noted the one we currently have is plastic (I didn’t even think about this stuff until we needed a new fridge!)

PEX is just a different form of polyethylene plastic that is cross-linked (hence, the P, E and X), that makes it stronger. The stainless braided line protects against rubbing on cabinets, edges, getting run over, etc. You can get a braided lines in longer lengths. I do not think the particular form of plastic inner tube matters (PVC vs PEX), but if you want a longer braided PEX version here is is https://www.amazon.com/Refrigerator-water-line-Stainless-Fittings/dp/B09WVW5NBJ?ref_=ast_sto_dp

i have often wondered if the inside plastic in some of those braided stainless things is really that good. it is great to see the pex version of it.
