HVAC permits required after the fact: suggestions?

lui1828, we have been in touch with a licensed electrician and are looking to cut this thing off at the pass before it gets away from us.

The day after we filed for our original job we started getting cold calls from people looking to act as subs on the job – mostly masonry work, but lot’s of general stuff. As dorkofwindsor says, they are definitely using the BIS system to find new sites. We’ve also gotten lots of cold calls from real estate agents looking to rent our apartment, which one must assume they intuited from the occupancy as listed on the DOB site.

Nearing completion on an Alt 1 that included the installation of a mini split system with 4 wall hung air handlers and 1 large recessed unit with 1 compressor on the wall in backyard and 1 attached to the chimney on the roof. We used a very reliable company, but our architect handled the estimates from them. Our GC recently asked for the HVAC permits and when I contacted the HVAC provider they simply said “estimate did not include permits” which came as a shock to me (I know, I know, I should have been more diligent, but I trusted the people we hired). What do we do in this situation? I’m not at all worried about the quality of the work, but I am concerned about the system passing the DOB final inspection. Constructive insights welcomed! Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like your Architect needs to come up with the solution; he got the estimates for them.

I can try that route, but at the end of the day, while the architect got the estimate, he gave it to me to sign off on. I made assumptions about the estimate, which I should not have (I was green and at the start of the process) and feel as though the ultimate responsibility is on me.

My neighbor installed three mini split in front of his house. An inspector gave him a
$1300 ticket for electrical permits not on file. He had to get Licensed Electrician to file the permits and to correct the violation.

The strange thing is within days of the violation being issued, the homeowner was contacted by Licensed Electricians who offered their services . Are the inspectors and electricians working in cahoots ?

Cahoots? Not necessary. On the NYC BIS you can search for all violations in a given date range and then simply reach out to the owner (not sure if you need ACRIS for this or can get from BIS). Just BIS being used as a sales tool.
