Hiding chain link fence on property line

A very good question. I’d like to know the answer as well. On one side we ended up removing the neighbor’s chain link fence which was falling apart and we put up a cedar fence right on the line. Spoke to them about it and they were amenable as we agreed there was no need for two fences. On the other side, the neighbor is challenging, We ended up putting our cedar fence in front of their wall – it’s kind of odd looking. I hope your neighbors are amenable. Regarding legality, I would just recommend putting it in writing in case you anticipate any issues later. I have a good lawyer of you’d like the name.

We have a 4ft chain link fence along the property line on all 3 sides of our yard. We would like to put up a 6ft fence for more privacy and to improve the look. Rather than building a new fence inside the property line (we have narrow flower beds on all sides) we are considering adding rolled bamboo fencing to the existing fence.

We will, of course, talk to our neighbors about this before we do it. However, I was just wondering about the legalities of attaching things to a shared property line fence. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of this?

I guess our fence would in no way stop them adding to their side in the future. I don’t think it would look anymore unsightly from their side than a 6ft fence 6 inches inside the property line. We have just repaired the posts of the chainlink fence so it can definitely withstand it. We will be able to pass the securing wire from our side and have the tied end on our part.
