Heating /Gas
Also, if you set up “level billing” you’ll get an average monthly bill throughout the year so you don’t have tiny bills in the summer and super expensive bills in the winter

Hello! Can anyone tell me what can cause an unnaturally high National Grid bill? The heat, cooking gas, and hot water are on this bill. It is a 3 bedroom 2 story single family house (plus basement and attic). It is my first winter in this house. Last month I kept the thermos range between 66-70 and the bill was $300 which I thought was high. For December I dropped the thermos down to 64-66. The bill instead of going down went up to $500. It says the delivery service fee is $250. I called national Grid but the woman on the phone was not helpful. I also asked that someone come out to inspect the meter and see if it might be broken and was told that they are very busy and that wouldn’t happen anytime soon because they have other jobs to do.
Everyone I’ve talked to says $500 is an insane bill and I’m keeping my house colder than everyone who has said that. I’m not sure what to do because national grid isn’t taking me seriously when I call and say it can’t be correct .
I would greatly appreciate advice or guidance on how to handle this or what might be causing the gas bill to be so absurd.
Thank you!

Were the bills “estimated?” If they were, this sort of lumpiness is usual and will be worked out when a reading is taken.
