Has anyone ever installed an air-to-water heat pump?
I think we actually spoke but I am not sure. As lmiller says, these units run best off of radiant heat, the best style of heat in my opinion but also the most invasive to install, though it can work dependent on your system. Someone would need to evaluate the full Heating System in order to give you an accurate answer.

Is anyone familiar with a zoned hydronic heating and cooling with an air source heat pump? It has been recommended to me as a solution that allows for keeping cast iron radiators and supplementing them with hydronic fan coil units that are used for both heating AND cooling.

It’s often done with geothermal, but apparently it doesn’t have to be anymore. Thoughts?

It’s not clear if you currently have hot-water radiators or steam. Single-pipe steam radiators are not easily convertible to hot water (https://heatinghelp.com/systems-help-center/converting-from-steam-to-hot-water-heat/) so you may need new radiators anyway if that’s what you have currently. Let me know how it goes though, as I would love to put in an air-source heat pump when the oil boiler breathes its last

The system you linked to has a maximum water temperature of 120F, and is probably intended for radiant heating a concrete floor. This is a low temperature to use with radiators, and the heat output will be significantly less than your existing hot water radiators which are designed to run at a much higher max temperature.
For example, the gas hot water system in my brownstone is designed for 160F water (design load, it modulates down when it is warm outside). At 120F max you’d need lot more radiators to output the same BTUs of heat.
Similar to your concept, I have hydrocoils to supplement the radiators, but these also work best at higher temperatures. I would be worried about how much benefit you would get from the radiators, and also how well the fan coils would heat, running at such a low max temperature. You would want a qualified engineer to run the numbers for this.
Assuming you have hot water radiators (as highlighted in the prior comment), you might want to consider using a gas condensing boiler as the heat source. The radiators will work a lot better. You ca n still combine heating and cooling at the air handlers using hydrocoils, you just have two coils and one fan. Also, you definitely want a mechanical engineer who has experience with what you are putting in.
