Glass specialist

i suppose now i replied to you, i can promote myself here. in my door business, i do a lot of metal polishing (on old hardware). Sanding wood, polishing glass, or buffing metal is all the same process; we are removing material from around the damaged area. the only difference between wood, glass, and metal is the media used and with wood we stop at a fairly large grit (120-150, perhaps 220 between coats of finish) with glass it is the cerium oxide and i am not sure what “grit” it would be classified as and with metal we sand to 4000 and then buff it from there using polishing compounds similar to what a jeweler uses.

the same process is used on stone and we have polished stone saddles in door ways. for stone, the media are similar grits as wood but have bits of diamond in them.

we also often acid etch metals to remove unwanted plating or patina.

for those wishing to do some of this themselves, it is possible to do. it is nasty work though with some safety considerations, primarily respiratory protection.

Recently, our condo’s glass facade on the 1st floor had graffiti by vandalism. We have a big and tall window down to ground on the 1st floor. Management company came and said graffiti is frosted, unable to be cleaned or recovered and suggested to replace glass. We are thinking to find other solutions as well. Do you any glass specialist to remove graffiti on the glass? Thanks

there is a glass firm in the city that can polish scratches out (i think that is what you mean by frosted, it is etched into the glass?) but it in itself is a bear of a job and very messy and may not work on deep scratches. if you call around asking for people who can do this and wish to check their knowledge before having them visit, see if they know what cerium oxide is as that is the buffing media used on glass (with felt buffing wheels). search on google with something like “buffing scratches out of glass, brooklyn”.

if this was your own house, i would tell you a little more about it in the chance you might want to try it yourself.

I just googled this and there are a heap of firms doing this and one of them states specifically that they remove “acid etched graffitti”. if you include that in your google search, you will find the people you need.
